How to put an editable chart in PowerPoint

Download a chart as a PowerPoint slide with a native chart you can restyle and edit the data of, or paste a high-resolution image. Free, no add-ins.

You can get a chart into PowerPoint three ways, depending on whether you need to edit it later.

1. Download a PowerPoint file (editable)

On any chart, press Share & export → PowerPoint. You get a styled slide with your title, subtitle and source. For these chart types it's a native PowerPoint chart:

  • Bar and column charts (including grouped, stacked and 100% stacked)
  • Line and area charts
  • Pie and doughnut charts
  • Scatter, bubble and radar charts

Native means you can restyle it with PowerPoint's own tools, and change the numbers by right-clicking the chart and choosing Edit Data. Your data is also copied into the slide's speaker notes.

Other chart types, like Sankey diagrams, treemaps and maps, go in as a sharp, high-resolution image.

2. Copy and paste (quickest)

Press Copy image and paste straight into PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides. Turn on Transparent background under Style first if your slide has a coloured background.

3. An animated slide

Press Create video first, then PowerPoint: your file gets a second slide that plays the animation.

Good to know

  • Use the 16:9 size for modern slides, or 4:3 for older templates.
  • If you've used highlight, notes or a target line, the chart goes in as an image so those stay exactly as you designed them.
  • A brand kit carries your logo and font onto the slide.
